Travel Season Timeline

At the highest level, the travel season runs from registration in the Summer through the Winter until the last game or tournament in late Spring of the following year.

This page is intended to provide addtional detail on what takes place during the season.  It is offered for those who are new to the travel experience and seek more information.  Coaches, team managers and experienced parents can find more detailed information at Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL).

Generally, the following events take place in the travel season.  Please note the dates are approximate.

  • June to August - Registration with the club
  • September to October - Team formation takes place
    • In addition to assigning players to teams, the Club's travel committee consults with the Technical/Coaching Director in identifying and recruiting U-14 and above coaches and managers.
    • U-10 and U-12 academy begins.  U-12 teams may play Fall Travel Season.
    • Technical Coaches at U-10 and U-12 age groups will hold age group meeting for parents to explain academy program, player placements, selection of parent coaches.
  • October U-14 and above Coaches/Managers hold a team meeting and outline the season with the parents.
    • Uniform orders at taken and submitted
    • Indoor practice times are requested through the club
    • Team registration for the first indoor session
  • November to December - The first indoor session. 
    • This is an eight week indoor league offered by the owner of the indoor facility.  Participation in any indoor session is determined by each team.  Registration and payment is the responsibility of each team.  The Club plays no role.
    • U-8 Outdoor Academy begins under supervision of Jeff Guinn
  • December Winter Soccer Academy begins and runs through April.  This academy is for the U8 – U12 divisions of travel as their skill development training.  It is also available to rec division players for $120 per player at U-8 and U-10 age levels. 
  • November/December - Indoor practices begin.  The frequency and duration of indoor practices are determined by each team and/or Technical coach.
  • January - Team placement forms are submitted to the Club.
    • In each age group, there are multiple divisions that generally reflect the level of skill and the desired level of competition that teams seek.  Team coaches and managers submit their placement form to the club for review/adjustment.  The club then submits the placement forms for all its teams to CDYSL.  This information is used to form the divisions and schedule the games.
    • All team roster updates and paperwork issues are resolved between the team and the Club registrar.
  • January to February - The second indoor session. 
    • This is an eight week indoor league offered by the owner of the indoor facility.  Participation in any indoor session is determined by each team.  Registration and payment is the responsibility of each team.  The Club plays no role.
  • March to April - The third indoor session
    • This is an eight week indoor league offered by the owner of the indoor facility.  Participation in any indoor session is determined by each team.  Registration and payment is the responsibility of each team.  The Club plays no role.
  • March - Coaches/Managers meeting.
    • CDYSL holds  a coaches meeting for all clubs and age groups.  The season is reviewed, the rules are covered and the game schedules are distributed.
    • It is customary to have a team meeting or to review this information with the parents
  • April through June - The spring outdoor season takes place.
